What Is

TEMARI:
“Temari” is a knitted ball which traditionally used for playing from 16-18th century in Japan. Nowadays, temari has an important role as an ornament at the Japanese national festival called “SEKKU”, celebration of girl's health and beauty in spring season. Also temari is known as a popular Japanese gifts because of its beautiful pattern and hart of craftsmanship.

About Yanagawamari:
Yanagawamari is one of the famous temari especially made in Yanagawa, Fukuoka. It is designated as a official traditional folk-craft by FUKUOKA prefecture. At SEKKU season, people make the special ornament with them to celebrate girls. This ornament is called “sagemon”. People say Yanagawamari were first made by maids of honor at TACHIBANA DAIMYO , a samurai who dominated this area in 16-17th entury. The crafting technique had been spread out to the citizens over centuries and handed down even now as an important traditional culture.

Not only as ornaments of the SEKKU festival, temari is one of the famous Japanese traditional gifts. You could keep them as "power-stone." Also, we make the smaller version as earrings,hair-pins, and cell-phone straps. Even more, because of the beautiful geometric pattern, we provide it to some advertising champagnes as well.

“Like Flowers”

Temari is something like "Ikebana", so to speak "it will die." Even if it is decorated in the room, the color fades little by little when touching the air. So therefore, when decorating, place a vase etc. nearby to keep it moisturized. When you store it, keep it in a wooden box, avoid direct sunlight, etc. It is necessary to maintain proper beauty by performing neat care as we do toward plants.
